3 Plumbing Leaks You May Have Missed

Some plumbing leaks stick out like a sore thumb, but others are much more elusive. Believe it or not, things could be leaking every time you take a shower or every time you turn on the kitchen sink and you may not even notice it at all. Well, today we’re going to point out some warning signs that could indicate a leak you may have missed:

1 – Splash Leaks

This is the most common type of leak in just about any bathroom and it occurs when water escapes a shower curtain or glass door. Most of the time, these types of leaks are minor, but a leak is a leak no matter how you look at it and leaks typically cause some sort of damage over time.

Be sure to look out for:

  • Curling or misshapen vinyl flooring or loose tiles

  • Peeling or cracking paint around the tub or shower

  • Mold spots on the walls or floor

  • Standing water on the floor

2 – Tile Leaks

If the tile in your bathroom wasn’t installed properly, it could lead to water leaking through. It could also be an indication of deteriorating grout or caulk, which may need to be refreshed or replaced.

Be sure to look out for:

  • Loose or broken tiles

  • Persistent mold on tiles, grout or caulk

  • Areas of peeling paint in or behind the shower

  • Stains or water spots on the ceiling underneath the shower

3 – Sink Rim Leaks

Not only will sink rim leaks cause water to seep through base of the faucet, they can destroy cabinets and countertops as well. Sometimes these leaks are difficult to identify because water is constantly splashing around the sink when the faucet is in use.

Be sure to look out for:

  • Puddles or wet spots underneath the sink

  • Loose faucet base

  • Deteriorating or cracked caulk or laminate around the sink

Leaks in your plumbing can have disastrous consequences. Even a small leak can cause tremendous damage to your home by causing mold growth, warping your home’s structure, eating away at your drywall, ruining your flooring, and so much more.
