Keep Cool Without Your AC This Summer

Keep Cool Without Your AC This Summer

As summer swings into full gear, many people will be trying to beat the heat. However, constantly running the AC is bound to cause your energy bills to rise. Here are a few other ways to keep cool.

Turn On the Ceiling Fans

If you want to cool your home for an affordable cost, run a ceiling fan. Simply switch the blades to turn in a clockwise direction. This will push cooler air downward, thus eliminating the need for your air conditioner to work as hard. Because ceiling fans are so efficient, they can run for the entire day without consuming much energy.

Throw a Pool Party

Nothing beats being able to take a dip in the pool on a hot summer day. Don’t hesitate to invite your friends over for a pool party. Everyone will be spending more time outdoors, which means you’ll be less reliant on your AC. Even kiddie pools and backyard slip-and-slides will allow children to have fun.

Frozen Treats

Frozen treats can quickly cool you down. It’s easier than you may think to make homemade ice cream. Simply take a gallon freezer bag and add rock salt and ice. Pour your vanilla extract, milk, sugar, and cream into a quart-sized resealable bag. Next, place the smaller bag into the larger freezer bag. After shaking the mixture for about 10 minutes, it’ll gradually become thicker. This is a quick science project with delicious results.

Install Black-Out Curtains

Black-out curtains will prove to be an excellent investment. By blocking sunlight, they will help keep your home’s interior cooler on hot days. Placing black-out curtains on your south- and west-facing windows can quickly be effective. You could potentially lower indoor temperatures by more than 15 degrees.

Swap Out Your Sheets

While fleece blankets and flannel sheets help keep you warm in the winter, they aren’t the best bedding options for the summer. Cotton breathes better, thus making it better for sleeping during a heatwave.
